I grew up in Texas where I spent nearly all my summer weekends splashing in the muddy waters of the Gulf of Mexico, building sand castles, and fishing for Texas blue crabs. I received my Bachelor’s degree in English Literature at UC Berkeley and an MFA in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, Writing for Children and Young Adults Program.
I have taught ESL, literacy, literature, art history, poetry, and writing to kids and adults. I currently teach ESL at Canada College and am a freelance editor with Angelella Editorial.
I am a longtime member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Regional Advisor for the SCBWI San Francisco/South chapter. I am also the founder of the Middle Grade Lunchbreak, a professional organization for middle grade writers.
I am currently at work on a contemporary middle grade novel about a boy who is a math prodigy. I also write picture books and enjoy spending time with my kids, my English Shepherd, and my husband.
