We all have our favorites, and sometimes they change. It depends a lot on how old we are, where in the world we happen to be, and what’s on our minds.
When I was young, one of my favorite books was The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway. I also liked Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach. I wanted to fly over the beach just like Jonathan.
Around the age of 8, I began to read a lot of books. I can’t even remember the titles of most of them. Books helped me understand how I felt about things, what people were like, and how the world worked. Without a book in my hand, I was just a bundle of questions. Books answered many of my questions.
These days, my favorite books are The Fire-Eaters by David Almond, Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis, and anything by Sharon Creech or Laurie Halse Anderson.
What about you? What are your favorite books?
